Michael Whelan, Managing Director, Industrial & Power

Michael Whelan is MRI China Group’s Managing Director for Industrial, Legal and Power Sectors, leading a team of veteran recruiting specialists in the industrial, energy/power, transport and aerospace sectors. In addition, he oversees the MRI legal practice, with a functional focus on corporate counsel and the legal profession.

He has over 20 years’ working experience in Greater China and Asia, and 10 years’ executive search experience in China and Hong Kong. During his early years in Asia, Michael was a regional publishing executive with Time and Fortune magazines as well as his own publishing consultancy company.

Since 1993, Michael has successfully completed search assignments for senior, director to C-level functional positions in FMCG, Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals/Healthcare, Manufacturing, Industrial and Financial Services in the Asia Pacific region, across China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, Indonesia, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, and Vietnam. Michael’s clients include AlliedSignal (now Honeywell), Alstom Power, Caterpillar, Fidelity, IBM, GSK, Philips Medical, Philips Electronics and Medtronic, amongst many others.

Michael is a US National Merit Scholar. He holds MBA and BA degrees from the University of South Florida in the US. He is a Mandarin speaker and is involved in the development of an electronic learning tool for students of the language.
